Spring is a season of renewal, bringing warmer temperatures and longer days. However, it also ushers in unpredictable weather patterns that can pose challenges for spa owners. To help you navigate this season with confidence, swim spa specialists Ben Gilliam and Mari Cuticelli recently hosted a Facebook Live event, sharing their expert insights on weathering spring storms and maintaining your spa.
Swim spa maintenance in the spring: It's important to regularly inspect your spa and perform routine maintenance tasks to ensure its longevity and performance. In the spring, though, pollen, rain, and other natural elements can affect the chemical levels and water clarity of your swim spa. It's important to keep your spa covered — unless you are treating the water. When chemicals are added to water, they release gas into the air and you want those gasses to dissipate.
If leaves and other elements, like flowers from a magnolia tree, get into the water, use a skimmer or pool vacuum.
Secure spa cover. High winds can lift your swim spa cover. But it's important to be aware of any incoming weather. As a storm approaches, secure the straps using the latch system and head back inside. If the winds are particularly strong, viewers suggested placing sandbags on the corner of the spa.
Sun protection: Days are longer, and there's more time to enjoy the sun. But you want to make sure that you protect yourself from the sun's rays while relaxing in your spa. A hat with a wide brim can offer protection for your face, shielding it from direct sunlight and reducing the risk of sunburn. Additionally, UV shirts offer another fantastic option for spa enthusiasts seeking sun protection without compromising their water quality. These specially designed shirts provide UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) protection, blocking out harmful UV rays.
